Caroline J. DaPonti, 82, died on January 1, 2025. Born in Springfield to the late Arthur & Rose (Mazzaferro) DaPonti, she was a graduate of Cathedral High School, Elms College and attended Western New England Law School.
Caroline began her Springfield Public Schools teaching career at Tepley School and retired from Liberty School after teaching for many years. Later, she worked in the food service department at Riverside Park for 19 years. A past president of Spiritualist Church, she was also a past president of Para as a Reiki Master.
CJ lived her life as she wanted, was well-read and interested in a variety of topics including Egyptology, religions, philosophy, and history. A lover of animals, she owned numerous dogs throughout her life. Stricken with lymphedema, she did not allow it to get her down and continued with her self-education.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her grandparents, Pietro & Josephine Mazzaferro, and other beloved family members.
Left to treasure her memory is her partner of 36 years, Anne Gamache, sister, Marie Joyce Ross, nephews, Matthew Ross & wife Kerry of Falls Church, VA, and Michael Ross & wife Mary Ellen of Springfield, grand-nephews & nieces, Aidan, Liam, Jack, Jocelyn & Kierstyn Ross, and many friends & cousins.
Her family extends a heartfelt thank you to the therapists, nurses, and CNAs at Sixteen Acres Rehabilitation Center for the sensitive care shown to Carol during her stay.
Caroline’s wake will be from 9-10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 14, at Tazzini Funeral Home, 22 Locust Street in Springfield, proceeding to her 11 a.m.graveside service and burial at St. Michael’s Cemetery.
