Maria M. Gisolfi


Maria Mattea (D’Amato) Gisolfi, 96, passed away at Baystate Medical Center on Sunday, April 2, 2023.

Born on January 6, 1927, in Bracigliano, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Raffaele and Emilia (Santaniello) D’Amato.

Maria moved to America in 1972 with her beloved husband Giovanni and their children; first living in Springfield then moving to Longmeadow. She enjoyed being a homemaker, and a loving mother to her children Angelina and Aniello who were the most treasured gifts in her life. The bond she had with her son-in-law Frank and daughter-in-law Diana was very special. Spending time with her Family was important to Maria, especially the times with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, treating them like her own children. She enjoyed gardening and sunny days.

She leaves her daughter, Angelina & husband Francesco Ferrentino of Longmeadow, son, Aniello & wife Diana Gisolfiof East Longmeadow, grandchildren, Joe & Enza, Tina & Bruno, Giovanna & Gino, Silvana & Aaron, Sonia & Joe, Maria & Anthony, John & CC, Frankie & Marissa, and Angelina, great-grandchildren, Antonio, Anna, Frankie, Johnny, Antonio, Alfonso, Gino, Giuseppe, Filomena, AnnaMaria, Mattea, Luca, Vincenzo, Francesca, Fiore, Massimo, Amelia, Giuliana, very close nieces, Maria & Genesio Botta, Amelia & Thomas Minor, and Tina & Rick Bessette, along with the D’Amato & Gisolfi families in Italy, many other nieces, nephews, dear friends, and her very close friend Orsola.

She was predeceased by her husband, Giovanni Gisolfi in 1978, brothers, Antonio D’Amato, Clemente D’Amato, GuiseppeD’Amato, and Salvatore D’Amato.

Calling hours will take place Monday, April 10, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Tazzini Funeral Home located at 22 Locust Street in Springfield. Maria’s funeral will begin Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. from Tazzini Funeral Home with a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church; entombment will follow at St. Michael the Archangel Mausoleum.
