Richard Douglas Panaia, 78, passed away peacefully, July 24, 2020. Born in Springfield, he was the son of the late Ellery & Mary (Perkins) Panaia.

Richard married the love of his life, Anna Campobello, in 1977, and they spent 43 wonderful years together. He was known for being an avid philatelist, and a member of the Pioneer Valley Stamp Club and particularly enjoyed the wheeling & dealing aspect of stamp collecting.

Richard is survived by his wife, Anna, sons, Scott of TN and Riccardo & wife Lisa of Agawam, beloved grandchildren, Sarah, Garrett, Nicole, Linzy, Scott Jr., Kayla & Gabriella, sisters, Sue Lenville of Springfield and Betty Panaia-Perlmutter of FL.

He was predeceased by his daughter Robin, brothers Robert & Edward, and sisters, Rosalie, Katherine & Shirley.


Richard’s funeral service, with full military honors, will be Thursday, July 30, 10 a.m. at Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam, attendance is limited to 30 people; masks and social distancing required.
